Week 1 and 2 Newletter

RELIGION                                                                                                                    

Memory work this week for third and fourth grade: John 4:24. Found in religion book on page 9.

Memory work next week for third and fourth grade: John 20:31. Found in religion book on page 17.

READING

This week reading , for third and fourth grade, will be fairly easy. We are going to read a few articles from a reading magazine and get crafty.

Next week, third grade will be reading A Fine, Fine School. Our vocabulary strategy is going to be context clues. Our main skill will be story structure. The third grade will take a test next Friday with questions about the vocabulary strategy, story structure, and A Fine, Fine School.

Next week, fourth grade will be reading Because of Winn-Dixie. Our vocabulary strategy is going to be prefixes re-, un-, dis-. Our main skill will be story structure. The fourth grade will take a test next Friday with questions about the vocabulary strategy, story structure, and Because of Winn-Dixie.

MATH

In math, third grade will be starting chapter 1. We will be focusing on number and operations, measurement, data analysis, and process skills. The first math test will be on September 1. 

Fourth grade, will also be starting chapter 1. We will be focusing on number and operations, place value, sequences, and number lines. The first math test will  be on September 1.

ENLGISH

This week and next week we will be going through Chapter 1. We will be discussing capitalization and punctuation rules, synonyms/antonyms, and word analogies. We will review on August 29 and the first English test will be on August 30

SCIENCE

In science, we will learn about the characteristics of living things and life processes. Due to the fact that Chapter 1 is only two lessons, we will review in class next Monday, August 22 and have our first science test on Tuesday, August 23.

SOCIAL STUDIES 

We will be introduced to Chapter 1 in social studies this     this week. We will learn about where the U.S. is on the Earth, latitude and longitude, land and rivers, climate, and natural resources. We will review in class on Wednesday, August 24, complete the study guide on Thursday, August 25, and our first social studies test will be on Friday, August 26.

SPELLING  

Spelling words will come home on Monday. Third and fourth grade will take their spelling tests on Friday.
