St. Paul’s 150th Anniversary is during 2017. St. Paul’s congregation was formed by the Lutherans from St. Johns, Pleasant Ridge, IL. They had formed and supported a Lutheran School in Troy in 1864 as part of their outreach ministry. In 1867, they released several members so they could begin St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Troy and Pleasant Ridge transferred the school to St. Paul’s congregation.
St. Paul’s was founded on January 25, 1867. The congregation is celebrating throughout 2017. There will be a major celebration on Sunday, September 3, 2017 with a special worship service at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Dale Meyer, president of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis and former speaker of the Lutheran Hour Ministries as the guest preacher. (There will be no 8:00 a.m. worship on September 3.)
A congregational and community potluck will follow at noon in the Ministry Center gym. Former members and community people are invited to this exciting and uplifting time of worship and fellowship.

I am pastor at Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church. I greatly enjoy leading worship each week and bringing God’s living Word to Troy community. Teaching Bible class each Sunday morning is an exciting and challenging task as we dig deeply into the wonders of God’s Word.
At St. Paul’s School I teach confirmation class for the 7/8 grade class as well as religion one day a week in each of the other classes from K-6 grade. I enjoy leading weekly chapel services on Wednesdays at 9:00 a.m. for the Preschool – 8th grade and at 1:00 p.m. for the Preschool 3/4 years old classes.
I was born and raised in Decatur, IL and was a student at the Lutheran School in Decatur from K-8th grades. I graduated from Millikin University with a B.A. in religion in 1983 and Concordia Seminary with Master of Divinity in 1987. I have served congregations in Wisconsin and Illinois. I have been pastor of Saint Paul’s since 2009.
I am married to Penny Schuessler, Saint Paul’s current 3 year old preschool teacher. I have 2 grown children – Rachael and Matthew. I enjoy reading, photography, train watching and model railroading. Serving the Lord is the heart and center of my life.
Most weekday mornings you can find me in or around the church office, in one of the classrooms or spending time with the children. I am available afternoons for those who would like to have me visit them in their homes.
