If you love science, experiments, and making discoveries about the world around you, or simply want to know more about things work … then this science camp is for you!
We will be exploring five areas of science using hands-on STEM techniques along with the scientific method. You will work in groups and use creative problem solving to come up with your own experiments, analyze data, and invent ways to improve your results.
Chemistry – You will discover the various properties of elements and atoms through many hands-on experiments. They will observe chemical properties that defy the world that we know and we will even use chemistry in a crime scene investigation!
Biology – You will play the roll of a forensic scientists by extracting DNA from cells! Plus discover which sports drinks refuel our bodies. (Mathmatical calculations will be part of this.) Finally we will design and conduct our own respiration experiments.
Energy – You will experiment with kinetic and potential energy then build your own battery.
Robotics – On this day, you will perform a simple computer programming challenge. You will also put your skills from the previous day to the test by building and troubleshooting your own dancing robot!
Engineering – You will have the opportunity to experiment with launching rockets! This will challenge your STEM skills and put them to the race!
Hosted by Mrs. Jennifer Doyle. Mrs. Doyle earned a degree in biology from McKendree University and is certified to teach Jr. High and High School Science. Her teaching experience ranges from Conceptual Chemistry to PreAP Biology.
